This city is an important pilgrimage center.

Thérèse Martin was born on 2 January 1873 in Alençon but she grew up in Lisieux. She entered the Order at the age of fifteen.

She became Sister Teresa of the Child Jesus.

She said she had come to "save souls and, above all to pray for the priests". She died in 1897.

She was beatified in 1923 and canonised on may 1925.

You will see the places where she lived (Les Buissonnets, Chapelle du Carmel) and the basilica dedicated to St Teresa.

It's the most impressive and biggest basilica of the 20th century (it was finished in 1954).
